Class Descriptions
Class placement is based on age, previous experience, and skill (at the discretion of the instructor).
Ballet
A classical dance form consisting of precise movements and body positions. Students who practice ballet develop correct posture, body alignment, grace, poise, and technical versatility. As the basis of Western dance forms, including jazz and lyrical dance, it is highly encouraged for all young dancers. Students should consider taking two or three classes a week in order to develop strong technique in all areas of dance.
Jazz
A versatile dance style characterized by dynamic quality and muscle isolations. This dance form is represented in musicals, contemporary dance, and dance conservatories. Dancers build balance, body control, and strength in order to build technical skills for jumping, leaping, and turning. All jazz students are highly-encouraged to enroll in a minimum of one ballet class.
Tap
A dance style characterized by the percussive movements of the feet. The exercises are excellent for rhythm and coordination. This dance form is fun and challenging because the dancer also becomes a drummer! All students must have tap shoes.
Lyrical
A combination of ballet, jazz, and modern styles of dance. Students are encouraged to interpret and express the lyrics and quality of the music. This popular dance style requires strong ballet technique, control and flexibility. It can also be referred to as contemporary style. All lyrical students should be concurrently enrolled in a minimum of one ballet class.
